Dear members and past members,
As the new USAWP Midwest Zone Chairman I would like to welcome you to the ‘NEW’ USAWP organization! This organization under the leadership of Chris Ramsey is dedicated to Nationalizing the sport of Water Polo. Membership and new programs dedicated to helping us obtain that membership, is the first priority. Also the new Olympic Development Program ‘ODP’ will bring all of our athletes on board with the National Teams. The program is designed to identify the top players in each Zone and teach them the same skills that we are teaching our National Team players. By doing this it will create a pipeline for athletes to have the opportunity to make our National Teams and participate around the world playing our terrific sport. Our immediate task is to elect a Zone Board. The other board members besides the Chairman are: Vice Chairman; Sectary; Treasurer; and At-Large. I need for anyone interested in being on this board, even if you are not sure what position, to send me a brief resume and/or a brief statement as to why you would like to serve the Midwest Zone as a Board member. I need this by Feb 23rd. (By the way, if you are not personally interested but know someone who would be, please nominate them and have them send me the information.) This information will be posted on the Midwest Water Polo web site -- midwestwaterpolo.org for all to view. Then between Feb, 26th and March 1st, I would like everyone to vote for 4 people to fill these positions. Send vote to me at dperry@usawaterpolo.org, or fax to 708-524-1597. You must be a current USA Water Polo member (so make sure you have renewed you membership) and you only get to vote once. When the votes are in we will publish the results on our web site and on the Zone page of USAwaterpolo.org.
We have in place a couple of important Zone positions. We have Co-Events Chairmen: Rob Lindgren and Beto Garcia. Their responsibility will be to organize leagues; or help in the organization of leagues if others have some ideas; and to organize the Zone Calendar. Right now anyone who has the desire to have a tournament should send the weekend to me(for sanctioning purposes) and to them so it can be put on the calendar. They will try to resolve any date conflicts that might occur.
Please realize that we are in a transition period for USAWP. There will be mistakes made but realize we are trying to Nationalize the sport of water polo. One way to do that will be to have a very organized Midwest Zone. We will be following the ODP for our younger players and we will be offering leagues and opportunities to play for the Masters. Again any suggestion you might have to help our MWZ please send them to me at dperry@usawaterpolo.org Please help me make this the most successful USAWP Zone!
